A study on Smoking attitudes & knowledge of the psychiatric inpatients

Abstract
Purpose : Smoking has bad effects on not only ordinary smokers but non smokers around themselves for social and economical problems. Smoker is decreasing by anti smoking campaign and doctor¡¯s counsel. But psychotic smoker has a few chance to get them not to smoke, comparing with ordinary smokers, furthermore they are allowed to smoke in psychotic hospital. A research reported that the rate of psychotic smokers are 52~88%, comparing with ordinary smoker are 30~33%.

Methods : We surveyed the rate of smokers for the psychotic smokers in psychotic hospital, Seoul, South Korea , Feb. 25 ~ Feb. 29, 2008. This paper analyzed about their non smoking will and information of danger for smoking, through these survey.

Results : The result is that the ratio of smoker in psychotic hospital is 46.7%, among them, man smoker is 57.7% and woman smoker is 64.3%. Then 35.9% of them smoke 10~20 cigarettes per a day, over 20 cigarettes is 27.1%, 5~10 cigarettes is 22.2%, under 5 cigarettes is 11%.

Conclusion : This paper suggest that it is need to develop effective and proper anti smoking education for smoker in psychotic hospital, on basis of this research.
